Papers, [ca. 1927-1954].

Papers consist primarily of correspondence, ca. 1927-1954, generated by Russell during his tenure as Dean and President, and relating to College affairs. Correspondents include faculty and administrators of Teachers College, Columbia University, and other colleges of education; educational organizations, the Carnegie Corporation, and numerous others. Of note is correspondence relating to the Horace Mann School and the Lincoln School, experimental schools affiliated with Teachers College. Some reports, clippings, minutes, legal documents, photographs, and miscellaneous printed materials are also included. Some correspondence of his predecessor, James Earl Russell, and of his successor, Hollis L. Caswell, is included. Also, manuscripts and reprints of Russell's speeches and articles on education, with related correspondence and clippings, ca. 1920s-1950s, and a journal of his trip to Europe, April 26 to August 1, 1946.

The World Center for Women's Archives was created by Mary Ritter Beard in 1936 to collect material on women in the United States and abroad on the grounds that without documents women would continue to be excluded from written history.
